Norman Connors

A 2 track boogie-woogie single (8m 30s) — released April 17th 2006 on Freestyle Records

Influenced by greats such as Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorious, Marcus Miller and Verdine White, the Mike Edmonds sound has been a long time in the making. Based in East London, Mike picked up the bass aged 17: around the time of the massive Jazz Funk explosion of the late 70s, an obvious inspiration for the tracks on this single. Having laid licks on many tracks as a session musician and working the London circuit for many years, his sound has defined itself uniquely: with a foot in both jazz and disco, and always aimed squarely at the dancefloor. 'Back To The Time ' features the vocals of long-time friend and collaborator Simon Clyne, another Eastender and sometime vocalist with The Brand New Heavies, and is a tribute to the scene that both were influenced and engulfed by in their formative years. Also featuring the talents of Laurie Lowe on drums and the unique tenor sax of Alex Garnet, it's a modern classic in the making. On the flip is another musical tribute: this time to the great drummer and band leader 'Norman Connors', another pioneer of the Jazz, Funk and Disco sound.'
