Tom Blake (Remixes)
A 2 track acid jazz single (12m 35s) — released March 13th 2006 on Freestyle Records
If it's true that you can judge a man by the company he keeps, then saxophonist Ron Blake would certainly earn the esteem of music fans everywhere, having worked with such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby Hutcherson, Gary Bartz, Jimmy Hamilton, Roy Hargrove, Art Farmer and Meshell Ndegeocello. Bringing the same eclectic approach that has caught the attention of such a wide array of musical talents to his solo work, here we see the incandescent performer laying down a dedication to his father Tom.
Stepping up to the controls we have 2 of the worlds most in demand remixers, both stamping their individual style all over the track. First up, NY remixer to the stars DJ Spinna drops some broken drum kicks and twists and turns in a dancefloor burner reminiscent of Jazzanova and IG Culture's early output. Flipping the styles on the flip is Yoruba Soul and deep house don Osunlade: who strips the track back to the bass and beats and adds his spiritual vibes to create a jazz masterpiece that is already being played by DJs such as Lil Loius Vega's and Danny Krivit.'
